Curry, Curry, Curry

For quite some time I've been wanting to make a curry dish, but as you might well imagine little j would have no part of it. And actually Big J and I were saying tonight that we probably haven't made a curry since we've had little j. Last year for Christmas I got a wonderful vegetarian cookbook, Fields of Greens, and although I don't use it very often I've read through it several times and marked recipes that I really want to try. Tonight was the perfect night for Winter Vegetable Curry.

It is a delicious mix of warm toasted spices, tomato, fennel, carrots, potatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, garlic, ginger, onions, coconut milk -- and I'm sure I'm missing something. Needless to say, there was a lot of chopping involved. Big J, as always, was a huge help keeping our not so efficient kitchen clean while I used at least a dozen bowls and half a dozen pots and pans. The 90 minutes in the kitchen was so worth it -- and will continue to be worth during the next couple of days of lunches.

Big J and I remembered why we love making curry at home while little j enjoyed the accompanying rice and broccoli I saved from the sauce as well as a chicken cutlet and fresh pineapple.
