The Lollipop Magic Fades

little j, like most 5-year olds I suspect, has some weird food ideas. One day she won't eat beef and absolutely insists that she has never liked it. But put it on a stick and call it a lollipop and it's the best thing since yogurt covered pretzels. When it comes to chicken little j is a little more liberal and although she has days that she says she doesn't like it once she takes a bite she generally is reminded that it really is pretty darn good. Tonight, however, was an exception. And I even put it on skewers (aka lollipops).

Despite little j's ultimate rejection I will definitely cook chicken this way again. I actually used a recipe that I had used before, but I generally marinate whole breasts (or thighs) instead of sliced breasts. Here's the recipe:

Grilled Chicken with Spiced Yogurt Marinade

2 - 4 chicken breasts sliced into strips
8 oz. plain yogurt
Juice of one lemon
2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
salt and pepper to taste

Combine the yogurt, lemon juice and spices in a bowl. Add sliced chicken breasts and refrigerate for at least an hour. Meanwhile, soak bamboo skewers at least 30 minutes. Heat grill to high heat. Put strips on skewers. Adjust the grill to cook chicken skewers over indirect heat. Cook about 14 minutes or until done.

I served the chicken with brown basmati rice, sauteed spinach, and grilled spring onions.
